My fascinating 5-day Travel Itinerary in Vietnam

Last month, I had a trip to Vietnam and this trip allowed me to thoroughly experience Vietnam as a whole. Personally, Vietnam is a lovely country with beautiful landscape. After that, I would like to share my journey. Hope that what I’m going to say will help you understand more about Vietnam if you plan to have a holiday in Vietnam.

Street foods and water puppet show in Hanoi Old Quarter

From Sydney, Australia, I landed at Noi Bai airport at 11.30 a.m; then was picked up and transferred to Hanoi city center by the tourist operator. After being taken to the hotel called La Suite, I came back my room to had a lunch and took a rest. The hotel was not too large but the staff was very polite. The room was kept clean and equipped with full of necessary things (air conditioner, TV, fridge and wifi). I am glad that my tour company supported me to book this hotel.

This hotel was quite close to Hanoi Old Quarter. In the evening, I spent several hours walking around Hanoi Old Quarter to enjoy the street food. I was really impressed by Vietnamese food here, especially pho in Hang Chieu. Pho in Old Quarter is tasty. Pho in Hang Chieu has all kinds of beef such as medium-rare beef, well-done beef, bordelaise sauce and sauté rare beef. Pho here is a combination of soft noodles and tender beef and sweet broth.

My evening in Hanoi becomes the most interesting when attending a water puppet show at Thang Long Water Puppet Theater. This was the first time I watched this kind of art. The water surface was used as the stage and some lovely wooden characters went to the stage. I listened to various stories and the explanation of characters of water puppet.

Hoa Lu ancient capital and Tam Coc

Coming to Ninh Binh, I was mainly taken to the cave populations Halong Bay cruise. From the tour guide, I knew that Ninh Binh was the ancient capital of Vietnam with the name of Hoa Lu. When visiting Trang An, I was attracted by the complex system of caves and lakes. According to what the tour guide said, Trang An owns 31 lakes connected to 48 caves.

While floating on the boat to explore Tam Coc, I went through a host of mountains and some dark caves. If being in my position, you would witness layer upon layer of mountains, winding rivers and some houses looming in the distance.

My tour guide also introduced that Trang An, Ninh Binh was chosen as the film location for the film “Kong: Skull Island”.

Landscape in Halong

Of course, one day tour would not be enough time to explore this breathtaking landscape of Halong Bay, so I spend 2 days in Halong. I spend time taking part in a number of activities like visiting caves and hiking around some of the islands. Of the seafood here, I like squid ball the most because its flavor is very distinctive. The squid ball in light yellow color is crispy and tough. This food is served with sticky rice or stuffed pancake. I choose to eat with stuffed pancake and the dipping sauce. It’s amazing!

Halong Bay

Truthfully, it is a nice trip because the weather is quite fine. After the rain, Halong became more stunning. I feel that Halong has its own beauty. It does not bring the ancient beauty but it is more poetic and romantic than all the places I visited before. On the boat along the bay, large and small islands appeared in turn with different shapes. The island in the strangest shape is called Trong Mai. It is shaped like a rooster and a hen kissing each other.

I also expect to come back Halong, where I can soak in the natural beauty and get unforgettable moments. If having an occasion to visit Halong in the future, I want to come to the fishing village to know more about the life of the fishermen here.

Because of limited time (only 5 days), I cannot visit more landscape in Vietnam. I heard from the travel guide that Mekong Delta in the South is very unique with floating markets and the life on the river. If coming back to Vietnam, perhaps I will cover the Southern Vietnam.
