Top 10 day trip operators in Vietnam
Ninh Binh, Cu Chi, the Mekong, Ba Na Hills and a day on Ha Long Bay are all sold as one thing: out after breakfast, back after dark. These are the ten companies that run them, and what separates them is mostly the seat you sit in.
The day trip is a transport product
Almost everything a traveller dislikes about a Vietnamese day trip is a transport problem wearing a sightseeing costume. The temple is fine. The cave is fine. The rice fields were always going to be beautiful. What decides whether the day was worth the money is how many other people share your vehicle, how many hotels the driver collects from before yours, how long the road is, and whether anybody told you the truth about the timings before you paid.
That is why the entries below are compared on seat and schedule rather than on scenery. A seat-in-coach day trip is the cheap end: a fixed route, a fixed departure, a large vehicle filled to capacity, and a pickup window rather than a pickup time, because the driver has to loop the Old Quarter or the backpacker streets before leaving town. That loop can eat an hour before you have left the city. A small-group tour caps the vehicle, usually in a limousine van, and shortens the loop. A private tour removes it altogether and lets you leave when you say. The gap in price between the three is often smaller than the gap in how the day feels.
The second thing worth knowing is that many day trips are wholesaled. A company sells you the seat, another company operates the vehicle, and the guide works for neither. That is not a scandal and it is often the only way daily departures can exist at all, but it does explain why two listings at very different prices sometimes describe the same bus. Where an operator states that it runs its own departures, we say so. Where it states nothing, we do not guess.
Read the list for the shape of the day, not the shape of the photograph. Then check the one thing no listing will tell you: the earliest pickup time and the latest realistic drop-off, in writing, before you pay.

The ten, in order
1. Les Rives, Ho Chi Minh City
Les Rives was founded in 2010 and works from the IBC Building at 1A Cong Truong Me Linh in District 1. It is the outlier on this page because it solves the transport problem by leaving the road entirely: its day trips to the Cu Chi Tunnels, into the Mekong Delta, out to the Can Gio mangroves and along the Saigon River at sunset run by speedboat, and the site states it was the first company to run luxury Saigon River tours that way. For Cu Chi in particular that turns a slow highway crawl into an arrival by water. It suits travellers with limited days and enough budget to buy time back. The limitation is exactly that: this is the expensive end of the category, and a river runs where it runs, so the routes on offer are fewer than a coach operator can list.
2. Vietnam Explorer, Hanoi Partner
Vietnam Explorer operates from the 25th floor of 89 Lang Ha in Dong Da and sits at the budget end on purpose. It runs daily group departures, small-group and private options, with products from half a day up to ten days and more, and the site claims over 500 destinations and tours. Named day trip country includes Ha Long, the Mekong Delta, Sapa, Mai Chau, Phu Quoc and Hanoi itself. It suits travellers who want to see three or four things in a week without booking three or four companies, and who care more about the total than about the legroom. The limitation is the honest one for any price-led daily departure: the vehicle fills up, the pickup loop is long, and the day is built around the group rather than around you. 3. Ninh Binh Tours, Hanoi
Ninh Binh Tours runs from an office at 39B Hang Hanh in Hoan Kiem and does one region properly: Trang An, Tam Coc, Hoa Lu and Mua Cave, as group or private departures. The number that matters is on its own site, and it is nine: group tours are capped at nine passengers in limousine vans, with daily departures and Old Quarter pickup. Nine in a van rather than twenty-something in a coach changes the whole day, from how fast everyone reboards to whether the guide can answer a question without a microphone. It is the obvious pick if Ninh Binh is the day trip you have chosen. The limitation is the flip side of specialising: if you want Ninh Binh and Ha Long and Sapa from one booking, this is not the company to ask.
4. Canary Tourist, Hanoi Partner
Canary Tourist is based at 28 Ngo Huyen in Hoan Kiem and sells guided day packages that come with both a guide and a driver rather than a guide who meets you at a station. Its published destinations are Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Lan Ha Bay and Phu Quoc, and it takes Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, Payoneer and OnePay, which is worth more than it sounds when the alternative is carrying cash for a family of four. The tagline is "unveil your holiday" and the model is a packaged, escorted day rather than a seat on a bus. It suits first-time visitors who want the logistics handled end to end. 5. TNK Travel, Ho Chi Minh City
TNK Travel has been at 90 Bui Vien in District 1 since it was founded in 2001 and holds international tour operator licence 79-102/2010/TCDL-GP LHQT. It is the classic seat-in-coach machine, with daily departures not only from Ho Chi Minh City but from Hanoi, Hue, Nha Trang and Da Lat: a Cu Chi half day, the Mekong Delta, a Ha Long day cruise. If you are travelling the length of the country and want one company you can rebook in each city without renegotiating everything, that reach is the argument. One thing to know for balance: TNK is a shareholder in Signature Cruises in Ha Long Bay, so a Ha Long product sold by TNK is not necessarily a neutral shop-around. The other limitation is the category default, a full coach and a long pickup loop.
6. Rose Tourist, Hanoi Partner
Rose Tourist works from Ly Nam De Street in Hanoi and is built specifically around daily group departures, which is the useful thing about it: you are not waiting for a minimum number of bookings to be reached before your day is confirmed. Ninh Binh and Ha Long sit among its destinations alongside Ha Giang, Hanoi and Nha Trang, and the staff are multilingual, so a booking in something other than English is realistic. It suits travellers whose dates are fixed and who want confirmation now rather than a maybe. The limitation is inherent to daily departures: the itinerary is the itinerary, the vehicle leaves when it leaves, and personalising the route means moving to the private product and paying for it. 7. Truly Ninh Binh, Hanoi
Truly Ninh Binh runs from 31 Lo Su in Hoan Kiem and sells Ninh Binh day tours alongside multi-day packages and onward trips to Ha Long, Sapa and Ha Giang. It is the second Ninh Binh specialist here and it behaves differently from the first: rather than doing one province and stopping, it uses the day trip as the front door to a longer itinerary, so extending Ninh Binh into a northern loop is a conversation rather than a rebooking. It has sister brands, Dragonfly Cruise and Charming Vietnam Travel, which is worth knowing before you treat a recommendation as independent. That is also the limitation: when the company that sells you the day also owns the cruise it suggests for tomorrow, you should compare that cruise against the wider market yourself.
8. Dragonfly Cruise, Hanoi
Dragonfly Cruise was founded in 2013 by Bui Nam and shares the 31 Lo Su address in Hoan Kiem with Truly Ninh Binh. Its day product is a Ha Long Bay cruise of roughly four to six hours on the water, departing from Hanoi, with cave, kayak and beach stops, and it also sells overnight options. A day cruise is the right call for anyone who wants to see the bay but cannot give it a night, and the four to six hour figure is a more honest description of a Ha Long day than the phrase full day, because a large part of that day is the road. The limitation is the road itself: it is a long drive at both ends for a short time afloat, and the bay does its best work at dawn and dusk, which a day trip misses.
9. The Sinh Tourist, nationwide
The Sinh Tourist is the original Sinh Cafe backpacker brand, and its own site title states SinhCafe from 1993. It sells budget day tours and open-bus tickets out of Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Ha Long, Nha Trang, Da Lat, Mui Ne and Phu Quoc, which is the widest departure map on this page. For independent travellers moving down the coast on a budget, the combination of a bus ticket and a day tour from one counter is still hard to beat. The limitation is a real one and the company publishes it itself: imitators use the name. Check the exact domain, check the office address against the official site, and do not book a Sinh Tourist product from a shopfront just because the sign says Sinh.
10. Hoi An Day Trip, Hoi An
Hoi An Day Trip operates from 03 Nguyen Tri Phuong in Hoi An and holds business licence 4001274508, issued on 26 October 2023, with international tour operator licence 49-136/2024/CDLQGVN-GP LHQT. It covers the central circuit: the Golden Bridge and Ba Na Hills, My Son, the Marble Mountains and Hue, plus private transfers, which matters on the Hai Van route where the transfer is half the point. Being based in Hoi An rather than selling Hoi An from Hanoi shows in the pickup times. It suits people based in Hoi An or Da Nang for three or four nights. The limitation is that this is a young licence, so there is less published history to check than with the older names above.
Seat, group size and the pickup window
Three questions decide the quality of a day trip, and all three can be asked before you pay. How many seats are on the vehicle and how many will be sold. What time the pickup window opens and closes, and how many other hotels are on the loop before yours. And who actually operates the day: the company taking your money, or a partner it books through.
A capped small group, of the kind Ninh Binh Tours publishes at nine passengers, is worth paying a premium for on a long road day, because every stop takes as long as the slowest reboarding. A private car is worth it the moment there are three or more of you, at which point the per-person difference against a group seat is often modest. And a day cruise sold as full day should always be re-read as a driving day with a few hours afloat in the middle, which is why Dragonfly Cruise stating four to six hours of cruising is more useful than a competitor stating twelve hours of tour.

How we put this list together
This ranking is desk research, not experience. We have not taken these tours, we have not interviewed the operators, and we do not accept a company's marketing as evidence of anything except what the company wants to say. Every fact in the entries above comes from the operator's own published material, read in September 2026, and where a company publishes no founding year, no licence number or no group size, we leave the gap visible rather than filling it.
For day trips specifically we gave weight to four things: a published cap on group size, because it is the single strongest predictor of how a road day goes; a stated licence or business registration, because it gives a traveller something to check; daily rather than on-demand departures, because a confirmed date is worth more than a cheap maybe; and clear ownership disclosure where an operator sells a product a sister company runs. When this is the wrong thing to book
A day trip is a compromise between seeing a place and sleeping somewhere convenient. Sometimes the compromise is not worth making, and these are the clearest cases.
- You have picked a destination that is genuinely far. Sapa, Ha Giang and Phong Nha punish a day return with more hours in a vehicle than out of it. Give them a night and use our package tour ranking to find someone who will build the trip.
- You want Ha Long or Lan Ha to be the highlight of your trip. A day cruise sees the bay at the flattest, busiest part of the day. An overnight cabin sees it at dawn. Start at our cruise ranking instead.

- You are travelling with a toddler, an elderly relative or anyone who cannot sit still for three hours each way. Book a private car with a driver, keep the destination close, and stop when you need to.
Where a day trip does earn its place is on the middle-distance runs: Ninh Binh, Cu Chi, the near delta, My Son, the Marble Mountains. Two to three hours each way, one clear thing to see, home in time for dinner. Beyond that radius, the vehicle wins and you lose.

Questions travellers ask most
What is the difference between a group day tour and a seat-in-coach tour?
They usually mean the same thing: a fixed route, a fixed departure time and a large vehicle sold seat by seat. The phrase small group only means something when the operator publishes a number, as Ninh Binh Tours does at nine passengers per limousine van.
If no cap is published, assume the vehicle will be full. That affects reboarding time at every stop far more than it affects comfort on the road.
Is a Ha Long Bay day trip worth it, or should I stay overnight?
A day trip is a driving day with a few hours on the water in the middle. Dragonfly Cruise, for example, describes roughly four to six hours of cruising, which is a more honest number than a twelve hour tour length that counts the road.
If the bay is a highlight of your trip, take a cabin overnight and see it early and late, when the day boats are not there. If it is one item on a long list, the day trip is a reasonable compromise.
Why does my pickup time cover a whole hour?
Because the vehicle collects from several hotels before it leaves town, and the operator cannot know in advance where you sit in that loop. A pickup window is normal on a group departure and is not a sign of a badly run tour.
A private tour removes the loop entirely, and on a long day that can be worth more than any other upgrade. Ask for the earliest pickup and the latest realistic drop-off in writing before you pay.
Does the company I book with actually run the tour?
Often not. Day trips are widely wholesaled, so the company selling the seat, the company operating the vehicle and the guide can all be different. That is normal in Vietnam and is what makes daily departures possible at all.
It matters in two situations: when something goes wrong and you need to know who is responsible, and when the seller owns the product it is recommending. Truly Ninh Binh and Dragonfly Cruise, for instance, are sister brands at the same address, which is worth knowing before you treat a suggestion as independent.
